Strength and Weakness

England

England cricket team is currently the number 1 ODI team in the world and is among the top contenders for the trophy. Apart from the benefits of the home condition, the England cricket team has an extra edge following its on-going form. Its in-depth batting line up includes the likes of the skipper Eoin Morgan with a strike rate of 90.39 in ODI, Joe Root who has the average of 50.48 and Jason Roy with an average of 40.81 and strike rate of 106.3. The team also has a robust middle order to take over the responsibility if in case the top order fails to build the foundation. The bowlers Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes and with the recent addition of Jofra Archer in the team, England will be relieved to have a complete package of bowlers and batsmen in the team.

Weakness

England does not have very good record in World Cup. Despite being a strong team, England has never managed to win a World Cup. England, at home, can any day win a series against a particular team. However, this World Cup, due to the round robin format, it will take only one defeat to bring the morale of the team down. The aggressiveness of the team can go wrong sometimes. England spinners have been expensive recently in one-day matches. Despite being the favourites, the English pace bowlers can also be the reason of worry for the team.

South Africa

Bowling has been the biggest strength of South Africa. Led by Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada and supported by Lungi Ngidi and Dwaine Pretorious, the fast bowling attack of South Africa is of no match. The team has the three of world’s fastest and fearsome bowlers. In the spin department, leg spinner Imran Tahir turns out to be one of the finest in the world. In all the team can rely on their bowlers to produce the best result for them.

Weakness

The Proteas enters the World Cup battlefield with a youthful team. The team which have reached the World Cup semi-finals four times has only seven members out of 15-man squad who had been to World Cup before. Added to it, their batting had been a matter of concern. The absence of AB de Villers is hurting the team alot. The team lacks the experience and is solely dependent on the performance of Captain Faf du Plesis and wicket keeper batsman Quinton de Cock. The star batsman Hasim Amla has been out of form in recent times. Thus, if in case the the senior of the team fails to built a good foundation, the batting line up may crumble under pressure.

Crowd’s Verdict

In Crowd’s Verdict, around 30% of the respondent believe that England may be the world champion.

On the other hand, there has been no respondent in favour of South Africa winning World Cup.

Predict: Who will be the World Champion?

Outcome

England are the number one ODI team in the world while South Africa are ranked third. The Proteas have a formidable bowling attack and they will be fancying their chances if the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir come good with the ball. They have defeated England four times in their last six ODI meetings.

England, the hosts have the benefit of playing in their own conditions. They have a very strong ODI record at this ground and have even beaten the Proteas here on the previous four occasions. South Africa, though being a strong team, England seems to outclass them owing to their recent form. Thus, in England vs South Africa match, we believe that England may come victorious.
