Who Will Win The Cricket World Cup 2019 ? The Lok Sabha Election 2019 has just concluded, and we are few days away from the ICC Cricket World Cup. After the festival of democracy, India is ready to celebrate the sporting festival of Cricket. The 12th Edition of ICC Cricket World 2019 will be held in England starting from 30th May 2019. Thirty-six years after Kapil Dev lifted World Cup at Lord’s, India enters the tournament as a favorites along with England and Australia.
About 2019 Cricket World Cup
The 2019 Edition of World Cup will be played in a format as same as the one that was in 1992 World Cup. Every team will play every team and the top four team will qualify for the semi-finals. The format itself makes the game more competitive and engaging where every team will put in all their effort to win the trophy that connects the millions of people around the world. The teams that will be competing in this edition of World Cup are India, Australia, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh. The finals to the World Cup will be held on 14th of July 2019.
The Indian team this time is lead by Virat Kohli who has been the part of two successful world cup campaigns- the Under 19 edition in 2008 where he was the Captain of the team itself and 2011 Edition of World Cup where he was the youngest player in the squad. Currently, Virat Kohli is ranked number 1 in the ICC Best Batsman Ranking. Many cricketing pundits believe 2019 Edition of Cricket World Cup will be won by Indian team. However, it is for the time to decide who will win the World Cup but if the theories are to believed the four teams that may qualify for the semi-finals may be the host nation England, followed by India, Australia and South Africa.
Ever since the humiliating group-stage exit at the hands of Bangladesh in the World Cup 2015, the team England has grown up as a force to reckon with. In the recently concluded tournament with Pakistan, England thrashed Pakistan 4-0. Besides home advantage, England has won all their previous 16 matches chasing while chasing target. Lead by Captain Eoin Morgan, the English team has some outstanding players like Jose Buttler, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Chrish Woakes, Jonny Bairstow and others. It must be noted that ever since the World Cup 2015, England has had the highest win percentage of 65.51. Added to it the current English team is packed with all-rounders. With the selection of Jofra Archer the English team have added a strength in their bowling. Thus, there are some genuine hopes that 44 year long drought in English cricket may end in this year World Cup tournament.
The journey of Indian cricket has been tedious one with many ups and down. However, since quite a few years Indian team has been considered as one of the finest teams in the world cricket. Lead by the World No 1 batsman Virat Kohli and aided by the best finishers of all time MS Dhoni, the “Men In Blue” stands fearlessly in the field irrespective of whoever the opponent is. In terms of bowling, led by the World’s number 1 ranked bowler Jasprit Bumrah, India’s attack is regarded as their best ever. Ranked No 2, in the world, just behind the host nation, the Indian cricket team brings tons of experience of veterans like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni which helps the team to control the pace of match when required. There is no doubt, India will be entering the tournament as favourites with its strength of class batting line up and meticulous and fearless bowling attack.
After winning the last World Cup, the five-time world champion deserves to be one of the favourites who may qualify for the semifinals. Engulfed by the controversies, the Australian team led by David Warner picked up at right time having won eight straight ODIs, three against India and five against Pakistan. The World Champions who were considered to be fizzed out of race to win World Cup in England, suddenly saw a light at the tunnel after whitewashing Pakistan and winning an ODI series against India. The strength of Australian team as usual relies on its fast bowling led by Mitchell Stac and Pat Cummins. The return of Steve Smith in team have strengthened the batting order of the team which was visible when the team beat the favourites England in their first warm up match. Steve Smith scored 117 runs of 102 balls proving why he is considered as one of the finest batsman in the world. Time will decide whether Australia qualifies for the semis or not but not to have them in the final four will be a huge disappointment.
Why South Africa?
South Africa have never won World Cup but this time they might. Led by Faf du Plessis the South African World Cup squad is mixer of experienced and first-timers. Suffice it to say, they have the most balanced side. From batsman like Quinton de Cock, Hasim Amla, Faf du Plessis to bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir the Proteus seems to be the most balanced side. Reaching the World Cup semis four times, the Proteas came very close to winning the World Cup yet failed. This time the South African team arrived in England having won 9 of their last 11 ODI series. Even in their warm up match against Sri Lanka, the Proteas proved their might by winning by 87 runs and also sending a strong message of their desire to be the world champions this time.
In Crowd’s Verdict, 58.3% of the respondents believe that India under Virat Kohli may lift the World Cup this time. England seems to be the second favourite followed by Australia.
On 14th July 2019, the champion of the cricketing world will be crowned. The ten best teams of the world with compete against each other for more than a month. Millions of people will have their heart beating for a month. The results will crown the new champion of the world. Till then we need to wait and see who will win the Cricket World Cup 2019
