Analyzing Pakistan team for Super Sunday : India vs Pakistan Live
India vs Pakistan Live Predictions
Pakistan against Australia: Pakistan at one stage was comfortably set. In 25 overs, the partnership of Hafeez and Imam was ticking along nicely at 136-2. However, a lapse in concentration of Imam Ul Haq set the stage for Pakistan downfall. Even Hasan Ali’s cameo and Wahab Riaz rearguard action, Pakistan had too many runs to chase without many wickets in hand. It was between 26-30 overs where Pak lost four wickets with just 24 runs. Earlier in the day, with Australia batting first Mohammad Amir took his best figures in ODIS taking 5-30 without having much support from other bowlers except Wahab Riaz to some extent. To add to disaster fielders dropped four catches and missed run outs opportunities. With such mixed bag performances with the ball and in the field, does Pakistan have the spark to pull off a surprise victory against India which would be an upset considering form of both teams?
Pakistan’s Talent to Comeback
Like against England when top order fired, Pakistan went onto getting 348 and won the match. Even against India, the top three of Pakistan batting needs to make contributions for likes of Hafeez, Shoaib Malik to finish off innings. Shoaib might not have scored as many runs as he would have liked, but against India, he is dangerous to man. In 41 matches till date, Malik scored 1782 runs and averages 48 with four centuries, and 11 half centuries Pakistan would need to pull all its pieces together to have any chances against its arch-rivals India.
With the ball, Amir will be dangerous after his five wickets against Australia. The pitch at Manchester offers some help for bowlers that’s where Amir can be a handful. However, does he have any support from another end? His 5 for 30 in 10 overs was also the best for a pacer for Pakistan in World Cups, and with those wickets, For now, he sits at the top of the chart for the most wickets with 10 in three matches at an average of 12.30.
How Pakistan failed Against Australia?
In first 15 overs, Pakistan gave half a game away. In that phase, Amir pitched the ball up and reaped the rewards. Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz and Shaheen Afridi between them bowled just 37 shots in that zone. Moreover, more than that, they bowled 22 deliveries that were either too short or too full, both lengths ripe for runs on this pitch. Those 22 deliveries cost Pakistan 34 runs(as per ESPN Cricinfo data). Even Mohammad Amir, the percentage of false shot drawn, was highest(32.5%). While Wahab came to a tad close to it with 28.0% (as per CricViz data). However, dropped catches have hurt his wicket tally columns and in a way cost Pakistan the match. The absence of Shadab, the fielder, more than the bowler haunted them. He is among few players in the team Pak can categorize as a genuinely good fielder. Also, had he been on the field, Babar Azam would have been at first slip and not in Shadab’s spot at backward point, when Finch edged Wahab on 26, and Asif Ali dropped it, who went onto make 82 but more importantly gave stable opening platform with David Warner(107) which was the difference in the end.
Merely going by form, other than Wahab Riaz to an extent no one. Shadab Khan with the ball even won’t be much of a help is ,given how good Indian batsman are against spin and their performance against better spinners in the World Cup.
Failure of Pakistan Fielding
Going by poor fielding throughout the tournament it doesn’t add any points in favour of Pakistan.
However, Pakistan does have a template to beat India from their victory in CT 17, but since then both sides have met twice in Asia Cup, India decimated Pakistan batting, bowling and even showed Indians were much better fielding units.
The Manchester game is already sold-out. As expected the pressure is not just on players but also fans, because any loss to it neighbours is viewed as a kick to butt and adding to political tensions between the sides. This adds to the spice of the contest. India has been calmer against Pakistan since last decades or so and view Pakistan contest as just another. While Pakistanis captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed would say a word or two about Indian team now and then by putting down India’s recent form by saying India get better wickets to play their matches than Pakistan. India has never lost in a match to Pakistan in the World Cups till date and Virat Kohli & Co will look to keep this record intact against Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side.
So what can Pakistan do to win against the India?
Assuming a full encounter, it will help the occasions do not overawe Pakistan players. They should stop reading blogs, paper or whatever form of communication about the match and focus on enjoying the jam-packed crowd as the stage is set for whoever performs that day to become the nation’s hero. Fakhar Zaman after his hundred against India in Champions Trophy 2017 finals has enjoyed prolonged opportunities despite the slump in form from Asia Cup till the first half of 2019. In a way Mohammad Amir who was still in contention for World Cup squad despite 5 wickets in 14 matches since CT17 after his 3/16 against India rattling the top order players in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.
Can Pakistan handle the nerves of big clash?
Pakistan has the resources at their disposal to do well. However, the captain has crumbled under pressure with his calculation going wrong against Australia by giving extra over to a part-time spin bowler. Indo-Pak game is never about talent or form whenever they compete; it is always about nerves. The side that holds onto his nerves and goes about its business professionally on ground wins. Here as well, India looks favourite. However, mercurial Pakistan can rise to any occasion and perhaps they even don’t know when the team’s best day is to come. So some chance for Men in Green as well.
Pakistan’s winning formula
Clear sky, bat first put 330+ runs on the board with openers starting positively and field well in second innings. Bowler’s will make it an even contest. If Pakistan is chasing, they stand very little chance as you could expect Indian team to put mountains of runs on the board and Pakistan have made their name in the World Cricket in slip up’s during chases. Anything above 280, India should win.
