Highlights:

* Australia beat India by 10 wickets in the first ODI.
* Hundreds from Finch and Warner helped Australia to an easy victory.
* This was the fourth consecutive loss for India against Australia at home.
* Rishabh Pant ruled out of the second ODI after being hit by a bouncer on the head from Cummins.

Series will be moving from Mumbai to Rajkot and India will be hoping to change their fortunes. Host failed in all three departments in the first ODI, Australia used the conditions well with changes in bowling like using cross seam and Indian batsman failed to counter attack Aussie spinners in the middle overs. Agar and Zampa went for under 6 runs per over and taking one wicket each in a small ground like Wankhede.

India came with new batting lineup with Captain Kohli coming at 4 and playing KL Rahul at 3 who performed well in recent past during the absence of Shikhar Dhawan but things didn’t go well as team management might have thought of. The batting couldn’t accelerate and thereby threw away their wickets after getting good starts. As a result lot of pressure was exerted on the middle order batsmen which led to complete batting collaspe. India failed to post a challenging total on the board.

Defending a reasonably small target, Indian bowlers were all over the place with bowling lots of over pitch delivers and making it easier for both the Australian openers. Except Kuldeep, no one troubled both Warner and Finch in run-chase. The big whole of Hardik Pandya was clearly seen in the ground, his injury is causing lots of issues as India is not able to play both the wrist spinners in the playing X1.

India will be looking for much better performance from the batsmen on Friday, Virat Kohli said things are not going right when he bats at 4 but they might continue with this strategy of playing three openers at least for one more match and decide whether to continue in final ODI and to the future. India missed Navdeep Saini in the first ODI, who is capable in giving breakthrough in middle overs.

On the other hand, Australia were coming from a confident home summer and they just continued the form in Mumbai. Pace trio of Starc, Cummins, Richardson gave a tough time to Indian batsman. The pacers were well suupported by both the spinners in the middle overs. Australia came up with clear plans for each batsman as they did in February-March in 2019 and they worked it out perfectly. Finch has been in sublime form after changing his stance since the Pakistan series in UAE and Warner proved why he is one of the best in limited-overs. Both of them didn’t allow Indian bowlers to settle down during any stage of the match.

What to Expect From Rajkot’s Match?

Rajkot is hosting an ODI after almost five years but recently they have hosted a T20 match between India and Bangladesh. India won the match by chasing down 154 runs in just 15.4 overs.Rohit Sharma played a master innings in the Saurastra Cricket Ground.

Team News

Australian side will be unchanged after a thumping victory in the first ODI but India will be looking for a replacement for Pant as he has been ruled out for the second ODI due to head injury, Manish Pandey or Kedar Jadhav will be playing in Rajkot and KL Rahul will be keeping for India. Navdeep Saini might return to the X1 for Thakur.

Australia XI: David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Ashton Turner, Alex Carey (wk), Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa.

India XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul (wk), Virat Kohli (c), Shereyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur/Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah.

Prediction: It was one of those bad days for Team India in the office at Mumbai, they will be certainly bouncing back in Rajkot but it won’t be cakewalk as Australia has announced themselves that they are here to win but the chances are really high for India leveling the series on Friday and go to Bangalore for the final ODI.
