The news spread like fire after a news agency published it on its verified twitter handle that Vijay Mallya was going to be extradited to India and the plane carrying him was going to land in Mumbai late night.

On May 14, the High Court of Justice, London, UK rejected the application of Indian fugitive and former liquor baron Vijay Mallya against his extradition to face trial in India. Since then there has been rumours of his extradition to India. However, on Wednesday, 3rd June, the main stream media and social media was flooded with news of him being flown to India. Few of the media agencies went a step ahead and reported that the fugitive businessman was being accompanied by CBI and ED officials on his way to India. They even reported that he was going to be examined by a medical team at Mumbai airport and then lodged in Mumbai‚Äôs Arthur Road jail.

Mallya is wanted in India for 9000 crores loan default case involving 17 banks. Since the Government of India has started attaching his property and tightening their grip over the fugitive businessman, Mallya on several occasions have offered to repay all the dues. He has appealed to Government of India to take all the due money from him through his official social media account. However, he even accused the current Indian government ignored his offer and are instead interested in playing a vendetta politics.

Extradition of Mallya to India will be confirmed once the UK Home Secretary Prity Patel signs on the extradition paper. There are rumors of Mallya seeking an asylum in United Kingdom after he lost the right to appeal in UK Supreme Court against his extradition to India. It must be remembered that India and UK had signed an extradition treaty in November 1993. After no option being left for Mallya, he may be extradited to India anytime soon.
