Which States are seeing a big jump in COVID symptoms? To find that, let us look at States with high levels of Google search for COVID Symptoms

Top 5 States with Most Searches for COVID symptoms (Last 7 days)

  1. Telangana
  2. Karnataka
  3. Andhra Pradesh
  4. Delhi
  5. Maharashtra

Top 5 States with Most Searches for COVID symptoms (Last week of June)

  1. Telangana
  2. Karnataka
  3. Andhra Pradesh
  4. Delhi
  5. Tamil Nadu

  1. Delhi
  2. Telangana
  3. Karnataka

Telangana is leading in COVID Symptoms Search

So if one looks at data over 3 periods of time, the big problem States are – Telangana, Karnataka and now Andhra Pradesh. While TN appears to be still reporting a lot of cases, it is likely that TN will report lower cases soon as people searching for symptoms is not surging like before. Maharashtra clearly has stabilized the number of cases even if it is at a higher level

Google Trends may not be a perfect indicator but it is fairly representative.

What were the Top COVID Symptoms that people were searching for online?

  1. Sore Throat
  2. Headache
  3. Cold
  4. Loose Motions
  5. Body Pains

Not all of them are COVID Symptoms according to ICMR but people are being cautious. What is interesting is the absence of Fever as one of the search keywords.

The Southern States are in seriously trouble and are likely to remain so for another week. It is time for them to tighten the screws.
