India vs Australia Live Predictions
India vs Australia Live Predictions: It is important to start well in the first match of any tournament to get the momentum rolling as subsequent matches come. A dominating performance to beat South Africa augers well for Men in Blue confidence going into next game. With the jitters of the first game of World Cup out of the window, India will be content with its batsman. Other than Rohit Sharma no one got a fifty. But 85 runs partnership with KL Rahul, 74 runs with MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya’s finishing touch was the perfect note to announce team’s World Cup campaign. Bowlers made the best use of condition. Jasprit Bumrah snapped the openers of South Africa inside five overs. Kul-Cha did the demolition job in the middle over after Du Plessis won the toss and surprisingly decided to bat first.
With South Africa done and dusted, India has three more encounters in the next ten days against top sides, namely Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan. The next opponent in the Indian line of firing is the Kangaroos.
India versus Australia will be a different ballgame
After getting better of Australia in their home turf, Kangaroos roared back in India to win first ever bilateral series in 10 years. With scores even now, the final battle in the neutral venue could be seen as a final confrontation between the two of the top ODI heavyweights for the defending champions to showcase they are ready to defend the crown while India would want to stamp its authority as a favourite.
Australia brilliance against spin-twin
What makes this contest more intriguing is the fact that Australia looked unruffled against India’s X-factor- Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Yadav struggled with rhythm and putting brakes on Australia scoring. He didn’t bowl single maiden in 50 overs he bowled during the ODI series back home. Averaging 30.2 was his worst since his international debut (for any series with minimum three matches). To dig deeper, he was rested for ODI series decider at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Yuzvendra Chahal replaced him who picked up six wickets. However, he was taken for cleaners in one ODI match he played against Australia back home in Mohali (10-0-80-1).
Mohammad Shami is likely to get the nod over Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. India should play it’s best four bowlers with batting looking thinner in the end. In the last six months, Shami is among the top two fast bowlers of India. With improved fitness, a slight change in the run up coupled with perfect wrist position, better accuracy and not straying onto pads has helped him become complete package with success across South Africa, England, Australia in test and ODI cricket.
Along with Jasprit Bumrah, the No.1 fast bowler, India has a lethal fast bowling combination. With great resource at disposal, you don’t need to be a great captain tactically to win games. Throw the ball to any bowler he can get you wicket from any situation. What is required is to be a good man-manager. In trying to think out of the box or play as per condition by tinkering with combination, India missed golden opportunity to win a test series in South Africa in 2018. It resulted in players losing confidence in the process. Hopefully, Virat learns from his mistake and hand’s over the ball to best bowler’s: Bumrah, Shami, Yuzvendra and Kuldeep.
The top three are untouchable as is MS Dhoni, with KL Rahul showing flashes of brilliance in brief 26 runs. Rahul looks lock for next three encounters. With Kedar Jadhav, India has a good batsman who can also ball with a different action’s.
Are any changes in the team needed?
Apart from one obvious, Shami coming in for Kumar. No changes needed, but going forward there may be changes required if bowlers fails to pick good wickets in first 10 overs.
India’s Batting Changes?
Australia’s tail helped the team get to a formidable score. Thus, lower order batting depth gives a chance for the middle order to play freely. India doesn’t have that luxury. Perhaps, MS Dhoni who averages 57 in four of 30 innings could be pushed a spot above to No.4. Hardik Pandya at No.6 and Ravindra Jadeja coming in the mix, guarantees ten complete overs along with with his rocket arm and some lusty blows towards the end. India’s batting doesn’t become longer, but its batting becomes watertight with top four likely to finish matches 9/10 times.
Why Ravi Jadeja?
KL Rahul is not a natural No 4. It was visible against South Africa where he struggled against bowling. Hardik Pandya’s batting abilities are under-utilised at 7. He can be a good finisher and good lieutenant to MS Dhoni finishing the innings. He is good against pacers and lethal against spinner’s like he showed in IPL. However, it becomes essential for him to complete his quota of 10 overs to back up job done by bowler early on.
So far the team doesn’t trust his bowling ability so it’s vital a proper bowler who can complete ten overs come in while Hardik remains in the unit. ThaT bowler could be Jadeja but not at the expense of either wrist spinner. Also, Jadeja bad days as like Champions Trophy final means 60 runs without a wicket that if top four bowlers don’t do the job. But we certainly have bowlers to ensure the repeat of Champions Trophy doesn’t happen. So fifth bowling slot can be managed by Hardik-Jadeja with Kedar coming in occasionally while he remains secret weapon. And going ahead in this long tournament mainly in the knockout with wear and tear of pitch spinner will have a significant role to play, especially against Non-Asian team.
Jadeja batting has come off age since his century against West Indies last year. He showed his class against New Zealand after the batting collapse calming the nerves in scoring 50 off 54 balls. With him, in the team, we have a left-handed batsman who can come in good against left arm bowler’s. It must be noted India’s batting has been troubled by left armers.
India vs Australia match will be the biggest match of the tournament. India have played their first match against South Africa and registered a comfortable win. Australia on the other hand has won both of their matches. Win against India will make their path easier to qualify for semi-finals. However, we need to wait and watch who will be the winner in India vs Australia match.
