Chelsea vs Watford Prediction and Odds: Preview

Chelsea failed to hold back their lead at the top as their gap with Manchester City has come down to just one point. With Liverpool also winning against Southampton has mounted more pressure on Thomas Tuchel’s side who are scheduled to travel to Watford on Thursday.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring as Jorginho failed to judge Bruno Fernandes’ clearance. Sancho grabbed the ball and did no mistake in slotting the ball past Edouard Mendy.

The Italian midfielder then reduced the deficit from the penalty spot as Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva inside the penalty box.

Chelsea looked frustrated at times as they didn’t convert their chances due to a lack of composure in the attacking third. Tuchel later introduced Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku but that was too late to grind out a winner.

Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Juventus seemed to pave a way for a blistering evening but the Blues would be disappointed not to pounce on United’s mistakes.

Chelsea vs Watford Prediction

Watford are hovering around the relegation zone and will have to be very cautious from now on. Norwich City got thrashed by Chelsea a few weeks before and the Hornets need to avert another disastrous show.

They have been pretty inconsistent under the tutelage of Claudio Ranieri. They crushed Everton 5-2 but lose two consecutive matches against Southampton and Arsenal followed by a brilliant win against Manchester United. But they fell to another defeat in the last match and Ranieri must avoid this trend.

They haven’t been impressive in most of the games and with Chelsea having an excellent run in the Premier League they might take a defensive approach to thwart away their attacking threats.

Another loss would see themselves dropping more closer to the relegation zone as they are just four points adrift of the relegation zone and cannot afford to lose any more matches.

Manchester City are also scheduled to visit them and a positive result against both the teams would only boost their survival chances this season.

For Chelsea, both Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante are still on the sidelines with injuries and could make it to the bench. Ben Chilwell suffered a horrific knee injury and it remains to be seen when he regains his fitness.

Chelsea almost squandered a point when the Blues keeper passed it straight to Fred at the stroke of 90 minutes. But the Brazilian couldn’t finish it off and his feeble chip got collected by Mendy as he heaved a sigh of relief.

Both Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi were wasteful and the Blues couldn’t count on them. They were dominant on the ball and pressed for a goal while United tried to hit them on a counter and the goal was a result of that.

Antonio Rudiger tried from a distance but failed to keep it in the target as it clips the frame of the goal. Tuchel’s nurturing of Chelsea’s academy product has been one of the reasons for Chelsea’s success. Trevor Chalobah has emerged as the next big thing as he has been a mainstay in the Chelsea defence.

Recce James has been scoring goals for fun and once again popped up the question on why he should be the first choice for England.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has started to be a regular starter and his linkup play will only add to Tuchel’s selection headache. Their backline has been the pillar of their success and Trevoh Chalobah has been an integral part of the setup.

The 22 year old recently signed a new long term deal to extend his stay at the club and his brilliant form has provided an extra option to the gaffer.

Watford capped two big wins over Everton and Manchester United and it remains to be seen whether they could carry on their giant killing tag on Thursday.

They have lost eight matches so far and have racked up only four wins so far. A win in the next match which is looking very bleak could give them comfort leading to the next round of games.

Chelsea fans really laughed and made fun of Sancho all season only for him to end up scoring his first Premier League goal against them, his boyhood club. Poetic justice.
