Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction and Odds: Preview

Both the managers were esteemed midfielders for their respective clubs and have just arrived in the Premier League as relatively new managers.

Vieira took time to adjust to the ruthless nature of the Premier League and has turned Palace into a more attacking unit. The likes of Conor Gallagher has blossomed in Vieira’s tactical setup and their match-up against Villa will be an interesting one.

Nobody expected Palace to do well following the arrival of Vieira who is a not big name in the managerial circuit. But he has followed his instinct and got the results he wanted.

He brought Osian Roberts as his deputy who was with the Football Association of Wales and together they have been reshaping the current Eagles team.

He has managed to reshuffle the defence with young players like Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi and has also re-energised the midfield with the addition of Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher has been used in a more advanced role and has returned the favour with four goals in 10 matches.

For Gerrard, he was welcomed with open arms at the Villa Park as they ended their five match unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory against the Seagulls.

The former Liverpool midfielder believed in a pressing attacking style and is believed to be implementing a 4-3-3 system revolving around his current crop of players.

In the last match, Brighton had more possession of the ball but couldn’t convert it and Villa took the match away with two last gasp goals.

Douglas Luiz and Morgan Sanson are back from their injuries and will be pushing for a start in the next match. The former Rangers manager is unlikely to tweak with his winning combinations.

Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa and Matt Targett will be assisted by last match’s goal scorer Tyron Mings in the defence. The midfield setup looks to remain some.

However, the front three positions might see some new faces. Ashley Young could come in after assisting in their win against Brighton. The rest of the two positions will be filled by Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins.

The Villa gaffer is trying to implement somewhat of Jurgen Klopp’s pressing style at the club. High energy combined with possession based football to take out every opponent out of their comfort zone.

Gerrard would be looking to build something positive on the laid foundation and for that, he needs to reshape his team with a well organised structure.

Last season they showed their defensive prowess as they were the third best team after Chelsea and Manchester City when it comes to clean sheets.

Ezri Konsa and Matt Targett were pivotal to their plans last season and Gerrard will be needing more of these two players to have a strong presence at the back.

Both the managers are almost have a similar style and will be pitted against each other. Palace have been dealt a major blow as James McArthur will not be able to feature in the next few games.

McArthur has been the backbone of the team and replacing him would be an enormous task for the gaffer. Also, their knack of conceding goals from freekick could prove to be a handful if they don’t improve their defensive lapses.

They have leaked 17 goals so far and eight of them have been from set pieces. Burnley exploited their defensive lapses and Villa also should take note of it.
