Texas vs Oklahoma Prediction and Odds: Preview
Oklahoma have been pretty consistent this season. They have a decent offence which is averaging 38 points and 433 yards per match. They are currently 5-0 with excellent wins over Nebraska, West Virginia and Kansas and are tipped to be one of the potential contenders for the Championship.
Their offence has faced a lot of questions and are currently ranked 15th nationally.
Texas offence has been standout throughout this season. They have touched the 70 points mark this season and have steamrolled all their opponents.
Texas started the season with a blasting win over Louisiana in their first match. They dropped their anchor in the second match as they went on to lose the match with Arkansas 40-21. But since then they have been in a rampaging mood.
They eased past Rice Owls 58-0 and then also hammered Texas Tech Red Raiders 70-35. They struggled to get past TCU in the last match but Oklahoma will have a strong contest against Texas as it stands.
Oklahoma have a number of tough fixtures coming towards them. If they somehow managed to grind out a win at the Cotton Bowl they will be significantly ahead in their pursuit of the championship.
Texas have recorded consecutive 600 yards in the last three games which is a very rare case. Also, they registered back to back 300 yards with a whopping 427 yards rush against Rice and 346 yards against Texas Tech.
Oklahoma’s problem has been its consistency. They haven’t been able to destroy teams as most of their games against FBS opponents got decided by a very acute margin.
But they have been doing the job so far with a tighter defence and an adequate offence which always get the job done. If they somehow manage to keep Bijan Robinson under check they really will have a very good chance in this match.
Texas vs Oklahoma Prediction and Odds: Match Facts
Texas vs Oklahoma has been one of the fiercest rivalries. The two teams will meet up for the 117th time on Saturday. Texas have been the better team when it comes to turnovers as they have won the last six out of seven.
This match will be played at a neutral venue in Dallas. Both the teams faced each other at that venue in 1937. Both sets of supporters will be present in the stadium and it will be a 50-50 occupancy between them.
Bijan Robinson has been a revelation for Texas. He is currently ranked first in rushing yards, rushing yards per game and all-purpose yards per game. He was recently adjudged the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for his outstanding display on the pitch.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has had a mixed start to the season and it will be a litmus test for him when his side faces Oklahoma. Sarkisian reiterated that his team needs to plug the loopholes before the Oklahoma showdown.
“A lot of the things that we talked about post game held true when we looked at the tape. We played at times really good complimentary football where when one side was struggling, the other was able to pick it up. Clearly, we got some really good field position in the game and we just didn’t capitalize. I thought it was something that was unfortunate because we had done so well capitalizing in the red zone. That part was disappointing. We’ve got to clean that aspect up. In the passing game, just a little out of sync. We’ve got to keep taking our shots. We’ve got plenty to work on in all three phases…we’re going to need to. Clearly, we’re facing a really good opponent in Oklahoma. I’m excited for our fans. We’ve got out work to do. We need a good week of preparation to put our best foot forward Saturday at 11 a.m.”
On being asked about Sarkasian’s condition the coach replied,
“We’ll monitor it. Between myself, Coach Drayton and Coach Flood, we’ve got a lot of experience dealing with running backs. We’ll definitely monitor it. Bijan feels great if you ask him. He’s obviously in really good physical condition. That was something we challenged him…coming out of spring ball. There was a level of fatigue there late in the fourth quarter but you can always dig deeper. That’s an individual component to look at…about how powerful our mind is…to be able to overcome.”
