BJP Bengal MLA: Bengal Police Claims MLA died of Suicide
BJP Bengal MLA Debendra Nath Roy was found hanging outside a closed tea stall near his house in Raiganj area. The West Bengal police released a twitter post claiming that BJP Bengal MLA Debendra Nath Roy committed suicide and had a suicide note in his pocket.
However, the family considers the incident to be suicde. According to the family, Roy had stepped outside the house at around 1 am. “He had received a call at around 1 am and left. He did not return home afterwards. In the morning, locals found him hanging from the shed of a closed tea stall. His hands were tied.” The family members of the Hemtabad MLA in North Dinajpur district claimed Roy was murdered and demanded a CBI probe into the incident. In the image released too it can be seen that the hands of Debendra were tied.

With a tough election in the coming 12 months, the needle of suspicion was immediately directed at the ruling party led by CM Mamata Banerjee.
Dilip Ghosh, West Bengal BJP President termed the incident to be a murder and demanded CBI probe for it. He said, “He has been murdered. Someone close to him killed him. Otherwise, why would he go out in the dead of the night. Bengal BJP MLAs have no protection and avoid going out due to the threat from TMC. The law and order has collapsed here. A local TMC Yuva leader may be behind this. A full-fledged probe needs to be done. If needed the probe must be done by a central investigation agency.”
BJP National President, JP Nadda highlighted the deteriorating law and order system in Bengal. He termed Mamata’s rule to be Gunda Raj.

Debendra Nath Ray was MLA from Hemtabad assembly seat, a reserved seat for Scheduled Caste on CPM’s ticket and won. However, before Lok Sabha election he joined BJP but did not resign as CPM legislator in the West Bengal assembly.
Political killings is not new in Bengal politics. What started during the rule of Left is continuing in the rule of Trinamool Congress. However, today’s incident, was it or murder or a suicide it is for investigating agencies to decide. But this incident is sure to hurt Mamata Banerjee in a run up for West Bengal Assembly election 2021.
