Huge: Coronavirus Cases in Tamil Nadu Triple in 3 weeks
Coronavirus Cases in Tamil Nadu which were 22,333 on June 1st has now risen to 62,087, as of yesterday. The number of cases increased by 39,754 in a matter of three weeks. This exponential growth rate is alarming. The number of deaths in the state also increased to 794. Around 34k people have been discharged from the hospital. 1,358 patients were recovered yesterday, on 22 June.
The coronavirus positive rate is increasing rapidly as nearly cases are being reported every day. Around 2,710 cases were reported yesterday. Out of the 2,710 cases, 1,487 were reported in Chennai which accounts for nearly half of all the Coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu
Coronavirus Cases in Tamil Nadu are Surging despite High Testing
The state has also ramped up its testing, as over 26K tests were conducted yesterday. Despite the high number of tests conducted, many have expressed their concern over Tamil Nadu’s testing strategy. The areas where the number of cases is lower, have had more tests than the areas where the number of cases reported is much higher. Government officials have however denied this allegation. The state has till now conducted over 9 Lakh tests, out of which the highest were conducted on Saturday, which were around 33K.

As many as five districts are under complete lockdown in Tamil Nadu. These five districts include Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet and Thiruvallur and Madurai, which is the latest addition. There are some allowances for very essential services
- Allowed – Hospitals, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, ambulance and hearse vans to function. Shops for essential items will open from 6 am to 2 pm. However, on Sunday the lockdown is imposed with strictness.
- Not Allowed – Movement of taxis, auto rickshaws, and other private vehicles
TN is therefore the first State to go ahead with an Intense Lockdown, something that CrowdWisdom360 recommended in April
Tamil Nadu is amongst the top three states which have contributed the majority of coronavirus cases in the country. With over 62,087 cases, it is only second to Maharashtra, which has reported around 1.3 Lakh cases, and over 6k deaths due to coronavirus.
The total number of coronavirus cases in India has now reached 4,40,215. There are 1,78,014 active cases in the country, while 2,48,190 have been cured/discharged/migrated.
