Coronavirus in India : Delhi vs Uttar Pradesh – Which state is Performing Better?

Coronavirus in India : Delhi has been very much successful in controlling the spread of Coronavirus lately. Delhi was initially labelled as Corona Capital however, with rapid increase in number of sample tests and both Central and Delhi government working together to control the spread of virus, Delhi now has been able to reduce the spread of virus. Uttar Pradesh on other hand, being the most populated state in the country have been able to control the virus spread since beginning. However, in recent days, the number of cases in the state have been increasing due to rapid increase in number of tests.

Here we analyse which state has been performing better on different parameters.

Delhi vs Uttar Pradesh : Cases per Million

As per the official COVID-19 website of Government of India Uttar Pradesh has 22,49,79,000 total population while for Delhi the population as per the website is 1,98,14,000.

Till date Delhi has had 1,30,606 reported cases of Coronavirus while for Uttar Pradesh the total case reported is 66,988. In terms of cases per million population, in Delhi there has been 6,592 cases out of every 1 million people.

In Uttar Pradesh only 298 out of every 1 million people have tested positive for the virus.

Delhi vs Uttar Pradesh : Tests Per Million Population

Delhi has started carrying out an extensive number of test after the intervention of Central government. Till date Delhi has carried out 9,46,777 tests. If compared with the total population of Delhi, for every 1 million people in Delhi 47,783 samples were tested.

Uttar Pradesh with over 22 Crore population have carried out only 18,34,297 tests till date. For every 1 million people in Uttar Pradesh, only 8,153 samples were tested which is very low as compared to that of Delhi’s tests.

Delhi vs Uttar Pradesh : Recovery Rate

Both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have had high rate of recovery. In Delhi out of 1,30,606 reported cases a whopping 1,14,875 cases have recovered. As for rate of recovery, it stands at 87.96% which means for every 100 confirmed cases, 88 have recovered from the virus.

In Uttar Pradesh, 41,641 people have recovered out of 66,988 reported cases till date. The state has around 24,000 active cases at present. The rate of recovery in state as of now stands at 62.16%.

Uttar Pradesh as of now has reported 1426 deaths related to Coronavirus. Delhi on the other hand has reported 3827 deaths related to Coronavirus. The number of death in Delhi has been quite high. As for the fatality ratio, Delhi has 2.93% fatality ratio while for Uttar Pradesh the rate stands at 2.13% which means for every 100 confirmed cases 2 have succumbed to virus.

Average growth rate is taken for the average growth of cases in last one week that is from 20th July to 27th July. Delhi has been successful in bringing the virus under control. The average growth rate in Delhi for last one week stands below 1 percent that is 0.79%. Uttar Pradesh has been reporting higher number of cases in last one week. The average growth of cases in last one week in Uttar Pradesh stands at 4.42%.

Uttar Pradesh and Delhi government’s have been successful in controlling the growth of virus in their respective states. However, cases in Uttar Pradesh have started increasing in last one week. It is important for Uttar Pradesh with a population of above 22 crores to keep a check upon spread of virus.

Both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have increased the number of sample tests. Uttar Pradesh is looking forward to conducting around 1 lakh sample tests in a day. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments need to make sure that all the norms prescribed to control the spread of virus followed unless a vaccine is developed.
