Coronavirus in India : Madhya Pradesh vs Rajasthan – Which state is Performing Better?

Coronavirus in India : Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the two neighbouring states have been doing quite well in terms of controlling the spread of Coronavirus. Till date Rajasthan has reported 35,298 cases of Coronavirus while Madhya Pradesh has reported 26,926 cases. Let us analyse which state is performing better on different parameters.

Rajasthan Vs Madhya Pradesh: Cases per Million population

Rajasthan with a population of 7,72,64,000 as per the figures mentioned in Government of India’s official COVID-19 tracker website has reported a total of 35,298 cases. When compared with total population of state Rajasthan has nearly 457 cases per million population which means out of every 1 million people in Rajasthan, 457 have tested positive for the virus. While Madhya Pradesh with slightly larger population than Rajasthan, that is 8,22,32,000, has lesser number of cases per million than Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh the number of cases per million people stands at 327.

These values are significantly lesser than India’s cases per Million, which is 1039.46.

Rajasthan is the 11th worst hit state in India, while Madhya Pradesh is the 14th worst affected state.

Rajasthan has around 9,379 active cases in the state. Most of these active cases are from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alwar, and Bikaner. As many as 26.57% cases in the state are active as of now.

Madhya Pradesh has 7,639 active cases. Most of these active cases are from Indore, Bhopal, and Gwalior. The percentage of active cases in Madhya Pradesh is higher than Rajasthan. The active case percentage in the state is 28.37%.

Rajasthan Vs Madhya Pradesh: Mortality Rate

In Rajasthan, as many as 613 people have lost their lives due to the virus. Most of these deaths have been reported in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Bharatpur. The mortality rate in the state is 1.74%.

The mortality rate in Madhya Pradesh is slightly higher than that of Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh 799 people have lost their lives due to the virus. The state’s mortality rate is 2.97%. Most of the deaths have been reported in Indore and Bhopal.

Rajasthan Vs Madhya Pradesh: Average Growth Rate

Average growth rate is taken as the growth of cases in last one week that is from 19th July to 26th July. In Rajasthan the cases have grown by 3% this week. The growth rate in Madhya Pradesh is also the same as Rajasthan’s at 3%.

Both the states have witnessed a 3% growth in their coronavirus cases this week.

Rajasthan Vs Madhya Pradesh: Tests Per Million

In Rajasthan, for every one million people, as many as 17,833 people have been tested. A total of 13,77,850 tests have been conducted in the state so far.

Madhya Pradesh, despite having a larger population has conducted just over 8,323 tests per million population in the state. A total of 6,84,419 tests have been conducted in the state.

Rajasthan Vs Madhya Pradesh: Recovery Rate

Both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have maintained a higher rate of recovery. In Rajasthan 25,306 people have so far recovered from Coronavirus. The rate of recovery in state as of now stands at 71.69%.

Madhya Pradesh on other hand has slightly lower recovery rate than Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh recovery rate stands at 68.66% which means for every 100 confirmed cases, 69 have recovered from the virus.

Both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have experienced political tussle during the Coronavirus crisis. In Madhya Pradesh the crisis led to change in government at the time of pandemic while in Rajasthan there is an ongoing political crisis. However, both states have been able to perform well when it comes to controlling the spread of Coronavirus. However, on 25th July, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, himself tested positive for Coronavirus.

Both the states of Hindi heartland needs to take utmost precaution so that the virus which has been under control in both the states so far remains under control.
