Coronavirus India : Uttar Pradesh Vs Kerala – Which state is Performing Better?

Coronavirus India : Uttar Pradesh with population over 20 crores is the most populated state in India while Kerala with a population of about 3.84 crores is 13th most populated state in country. Both Uttar Pradesh and Kerala have been appreciated for their efforts to control the spread of Coronavirus in their respective state. Let us see which state has performed well on different parameters.

Uttar Pradesh Vs Kerala : Cases Per Million

Till date Uttar Pradesh has reported around 55,588 coronavirus cases. In terms of number of cases it is 6th most affected state in country. Kerala on the other hand has reported only 15,033 cases till date. As per the number of cases, Kerala ranks in number 17th in the list of states infected by Coronavirus just behind Jammu and Kashmir. However, as per the parameter, Cases per million, Kerala has reported around 428 confirmed cases per million while for Uttar Pradesh with over 20 crores of population, the cases per million stands at 247 which is much more less than that of Cases per million in Kerala.

Uttar Pradesh Vs Kerala : Active Cases in State

As per the official Coronavirus website of Government of India, total population of Uttar Pradesh is taken as 22,49,79,000. The state at present has 20,825 active cases while 33,500 have already recovered. Therefore, the rate of active cases in Uttar Pradesh at present stands at 37.46% which means for every 100 confirmed cases, 37 are currently infected.

In case of Kerala, with a population of 3,51,25,000 has reported 15,033 coronavirus positive cases as of now. The total number of active cases in state is higher than the recovered cases. At present the state has 8,821 active cases while 6,162 have recovered. The rate of active cases in state as of now stands at 58.68% higher than the rate of active cases in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Vs Kerala : Mortality Rate

Coronavirus has been cause of death of lakhs of people around the globe. In India, the virus has claimed 29,890 lives till date. In Uttar Pradesh 1,263 people have succumbed to virus till date. The mortality rate in Uttar Pradesh at present stands at 2.27%.

Kerala, till date has reported only 46 deaths due to Coronavirus. The mortality rate in state is less than 1% that is around 0.31% as of now. The mortality rate in Kerala is much lower than that compared with Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Vs Kerala : Average Growth Rate

Average growth rate is taken as the growth of cases in last one week that is from 16-23rd July. In case of average daily growth rate in Kerala , in the last one week, the number of new infections has grown by an average of 7% every day in the state.

In Uttar Pradesh, the growth rate has been lower that Kerala in last one week. The number of new infections has grown by an average of 4% every day in last week in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Vs Kerala : Tests per Million

Tests per million means the number of tests carried out per million of population. Uttar Pradesh which is the 6th most affected state in country by Coronavirus, the total number of sample tests as of today stands at 16,00,000. Therefore, with over 20 crore population, Uttar Pradesh have successfully carried out 7,112 tests per million of population as of today.

Kerala on the other hand with just over 3.5 crore population have carried out 5,88,930 Coronavirus sample tests as of 22nd July. The number of tests may look smaller as compared to that of Uttar Pradesh but when compared to population size, Kerala has conducted 16,767 tests per million which is double the number tests per million conducted in Uttar Pradesh.

Both Uttar Pradesh and Kerala governments have been successful in controlling the spread of Coronavirus to a greater extent in their respective states. However, the fight against the virus is far from over and both the states need to work more actively to defeat the common enemy, Coronavirus. At present, in Kerala, the recovery rate stands at around 41% while for Uttar Pradesh the recovery rate stands at just over 60%. Both states needs to work hard and make sure there is 100% recovery of the Coronavirus patients in their respective states.
