Coronavirus Situation Worsening : World Health Organisation

Over 68 Lakh people have tested positive for Coronavirus till date globally. The pandemic has already taken the lives of over 4 lakh people around the people. On Monday, World registered the highest number of Coronavirus positive cases. In the last 24 hours 1,36,000 Coronavirus positive cases was registered. Added to it in the last 24 hours 4,586 people around the world succumbed to death due to the virus.

The situation in Europe, which was the COVID-19 hotspot in the beginning has improved a lot. Countries like Spain, Italy, France and UK been able to bend the Coronavirus curve. However, the number of cases in the rest of the world is rising steeply. World Health Organisation Chief, Dr Tedros in a press briefing acknowledged that the situation was improving in much of Europe but said that the number of cases in most African countries and in some parts of Eastern Europe and Central Asia has risen. His main concern was the rising cases in Americas.

Six months into the pandemic, there is no sign of a vaccine. Countries around the world have now started to ease the lockdown in order to revive the economy. One Good news is that New Zealand recently declared itself a COVID-19 free nation after the last patient recovered. However, in countries like USA, India, Brazil and Russia, the cases are climbing every day. United States alone has registered over 2 million cases till date with over 1,13,000 deaths. On the other hand, India which was able to control the spread of Coronavirus spread initially has seen a rapid growth of COVID-19 numbers. The daily number of cases are now close to 11,000 a day and total number of cases reached over 2,60,000. India has already registered 7,466 deaths due to Coronavirus. With easing of lockdown, the cases are expected to climb in India.

With around 7 million confirmed cases and more than 400000 death already, WHO chief Dr Tedros urged the countries around the world to remain alert. He clearly stated that the situation is worsening with every passing day and may worsen further. The easing of lockdown around the world may add to the rise of COVID19 cases.
