Ease of Doing Business State Ranking : Andra Pradesh No 1 with Uttar Pradesh at No 2
Ease of Doing Business State Ranking : Government of India today released the State Business Reform Action Plan 2019 ranking. Andhra Pradesh retained its number one ranking followed by Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released the 2019 rankings. Railway minister Piyush Goyal and Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Puri were present at the event. In 2018 Andhra was the No 1 state in Ease of Doing business which was followed by Telangana. Uttar Pradesh ranked 12th in 2018.
This year Uttar Pradesh made to the No 2 ranking and Telangana slipped to number 3. Delhi which was ranked at 12 in 2018 ranking slipped to 23rd ranking in this years’ ranking.
The results were scheduled to be announced in March, but were delayed due to the coronavirus crisis. The parameters for ranking the states in Ease of Doing Business include areas such as construction permit, labour regulation, environmental registration, access to information, land availability and single window system.
The parameters of ranking Indian states and Union Territories are similar to that of ranking the countries. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in collaboration with the World Bank releases the ranking of states/UTs every year under the Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP).
Upon releasing the report Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said, “India is among the top 10 performers in the World Bank ease of doing business for the last two years. We are seeing a quick recovery in several sectors after the Unlock exercise.”
In terms of World Ease of Doing business India ranked 63 among 190 nations. However, recently the World Bank started its investigation after it was found out that countries like China, UAE, Saudi Arabia were manipulating data used for its annual Ease of Doing Business index.
