Disaster in India: 14000 Cases in a Single Day

The exponential increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the Country has left everyone bewildered. With around 14000 cases in a single day on Thursday, the Government is doubling its efforts to control the spread of the Coronavirus.

Maharashtra, Delhi and TN make a large part of the 14000 cases in a single day

Maharashtra and Delhi remain the top two contributors, making up for the lion’s share of the total coronavirus cases in the Country. Maharashtra reported about 3.7k cases, while Delhi neared the 2.9k mark yesterday. On a brighter side, Mizoram did not report a single case in the last 24 hours. 814 samples were tested, and they all came out negative.

The total number of cases in India stands at 3.8 Lakhs, but it is also a matter of relief that the recovery rate in the country is steadily increasing, as over 2 lakh people have recovered. The number of active cases stands at 1.6 lakhs.

While India touches almost 14000 cases in a single day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ramped up efforts to help contain further spread of the virus in the NCR region. He stands in favor of an “unified strategy” while dealing with the coronavirus crisis in Delhi and its neighboring cities of Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon. Delhi too isn’t behind in their efforts and has begun testing using the rapid antigen method. The high population density of Delhi and surrounding urban cities is a major matter of concern. Shah’s proposal to include the cities of Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad in Delhi’s plan of action is a great step to deal with the crisis, as these cities have a lot of people who travel in between from work to home, vice-versa. The increased commuters in between these urban cities requires special and unified attention.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain who is undergoing treatment for Covid-19, has shown improvement, however, his fever hasn’t subsided as of now, as per the Delhi Government. He is admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital.

Amidst the rising number of coronavirus cases, the country will conduct a poll for the Rajya Sabha elections. The voting will be done today for 20 Rajya Sabha seats.

World-wide, a rise in the number of coronavirus cases can be seen in China, US, and Europe. China reported 32 cases on Thursday. Eastern Europe has been seeing a major surge in cases, which had been declining over the past few weeks. Total number of cases in the World stands at 8.4 million and India is at the fourth spot. India has moved from 10000 to 14000 cases in a single day in a matter of days and this is a worrisome trend. One hopes that additional efforts in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai (Intense lockdown) will help bring down this growth
