2014 Independence Day : In his first address as a Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi described himself has “Pradhan Sevak” Prime Servant and not as Prime Minister.He announced PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Skill Development, Make in India, Swachh Bharat, building of toilets in all schools, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana and replacing Planning Commission with another body (Niti Aayog)
2015 Independence Day : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus in his second speech from Red Fort was India at 2022. He talked about roadmaps to make India a developed nation by 2022. Announced “Start-up India, Stand-up India” Set the target of electrification of 18,500 village which have no power within 1000 days. He also announced PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, PM Suraksha Yojana & PM Jeevan Jyoti Yojana.
2016 Independence Day : In his 3rd address to nation as a Prime Minister from Red Fort, Prime Minister asked neighbouring countries to fight against poverty. Announced to increase the pension of family members of freedom fighters by 20 per cent. He said more than 2 crore toilets have been built. 21 crore people have been linked under Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana. For the first time he thanked the people of Gilgit, Balochistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir from the podiums of Red Fort.
2017 Independence Day : On 71st Independence Day celebration, Narendra Modi talked about Bharat Jodo(Unite India). He asked nation to leave the “Chalta Haii” attitude and adopt an attitude of “Badal Sakta Haii Kya”. He appealed to countrymen to make digital transactions and move towards a cashless economy. He also announced for launch of a website which will give an account of the valour of the Gallantry Award winners.
2018 Independence Day : The 2018 was the year before election and the PM used this opportunity to speak to the people to encourage them to participate in the democratic process in the coming year and gave a lowdown of the thing he had done for the country.
He spoke about focusing on the ‘northeast’, ‘villages’ ‘women’ ‘development’ and gave us a glimpse of his plans for the future if he is elected. Prime Minister announced grant of Permanent Commission for the appointment of women officers in the Short Service Commission of Indian armed forces. From Red Fort Prime Minister talked about the launch of Pradhanmantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan to free treatment for serious diseases to poor people. He talked about an Indian to be sent into space by 2022 as a part of manned space mission.
2019 Independence Day : 2019 Independence Day speech was a special one for entire India. Narendra Modi was elected as Prime Minister for 2nd Day and it was his 1st speech from Red Fort after being elected as Prime Minister for 2nd time Independence day. In his speech he talked about “One Nation, One Constitution” becoming an reality after abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.
He promised to spend more than Rs 3.5 lakh crores on this mission to give access to piped potable water to every rural household by 2024 under Jal Jeevan Mission. Announced the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) as a major reform in higher defence management. In accordance with Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of self-reliant India, PM Modi appealed to citizens to buy local products. He also called for giving up the use of single-use plastic.
2020 Independence Speech : PM Modi’s 2020 Independence Day address focused on making India self-reliant, he emphasized of his ‘Make in India’ motto but this time he clarified that it does not mean an abandonment of globalization and the motto means Make in India but Make for the world. He spoke about important issues with respect to the borders, China and expansionism. His speech addressed global issues as much as national/local issues. And this is one of the few things that has changed overtime in his speeches. PM also paid tribute to corona warriors, those at the forefront of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day Speech on 15th August 2020 was his seventh address to nation from Red Fort as a a Prime Minister. PM Modi is known for delivering several announcements from the podium of Red Fort. However, this years independence day celebration was kept with limited attendance due to Coronavirus pandemic.
