Nepal: 20 Indian news Channels banned
9 Multi-system operators (Cable TV Operators) in Nepal have stopped beaming 20 Indian news channels with the exception of Doordarshan.
Nepal ban not influenced by Government
To quote Dhruba Sharma, Vice Chairman of Mega Max TV (Source: My Republica)
“As Indian news channels violate the ethics of journalism, we have decided not to broadcast them except the Doordarshan, following the consultations among the service providers,” said Sharma. However, those channels are being broadcast online. According to Sharma, the government should introduce a policy to restrict their broadcast online.

- While the channels include hyper nationalist channels like Zee News, they also include channels like NDTV
- The main contention of the Cable TV Operators is exaggerated and uncontrolled propaganda about the Chinese Ambassador and PM Oli
- Nepal’s Ambassador in India, Nilambar Acharya raised the issue of Indian media’s derogatory coverage of the Chinese envoy’s recent meetings with senior political leaders in that country
