More Voters are unhappy with Modi than with Vajpayee in 2004

Vajpayee NET Satisfaction levels (Post-Poll Survey) are higher than Modi NET Satisfaction levels (Pre-Poll Survey)

Modi versus Vajpayee Satisfaction levels

Modi outperforms Vajpayee on Satisfaction but also has very high dissatisfaction levels

On Net Satisfaction Modi scores 24% while Vajpayee scored 29% (Satisfied minus Dissatisfied). However, all is not lost for Modi. Modi scores poorly in the following States (Net Satisfaction)

  • Andhra Pradesh
  • Delhi
  • Jharkhand
  • Kerala
  • Punjab
  • Tamil Nadu
  • Telangana
  • Bengal
  • Madhya Pradesh

These States together add upto 206 seats (38%). BJP won just 56 seats (20%) from these States

Further, in the following States, Modi Net satisfaction levels are lower the Opposition party’s net satisfaction levels

  • Chhattisgarh
  • Karnataka
  • Odisha

These States together add upto 60 seats . BJP won just 29 seats from these States

In sum, while the Modi Net satisfaction scores are lower than Vajpayee, they appear to be located MOSTLY in States where BJP was inherently weak and hence the real losses are likely to be lesser than Vajpayee had to face.
