Tamil Nadu Corona enforcement: Two die after Police Custody

Tamil Nadu Corona enforcement: The bad news from TN keeps piling up. EPS who has been marketed as a top notch CM now ponders at the bottom of the CM rankings both in the South and Nationally.

As TN continues to wage a battle in managing Corona, over enthusiastic Police have been enforcing a strict lockdown in some districts of the State. A week ago on the 19th of June in Sathankulam town near Thoothukudi, Police picked up Jeyaraj, 62 after he kept his shop open after 7 pm in the evening (Corona lockdown time). His son Bennicks went to enquire about his father and he too was locked up.

The Federal, a Chennai based paper reported this –

In a horrific turn of events, the father-son duo that died in judicial custody in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin district recently had suffered sexual torture (inflicted using lathis) at Sathankulam police station, eye-witnesses have said. “Between 7 am and 12 pm on June 20, the father and son had changed at least seven lungies each as they had become wet due to blood oozing from their rectums,” said Rajkumar, a friend of Benicks.

Benicks died at Kovilpatti Government Hospital on the night of June 22 after complaining of chest pain, Jayaraj died the next morning at the same hospital after suffering from fever.

Two policemen have been placed under suspension and an inspector has been kept under compulsory waiting. The Madras High Court has sought a report from the police. The Tamil Nadu CM also announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to their families and government jobs to a family member of each deceased.

Tamil Nadu Politics Continues to slip away from EPS

According to a CVoter Survey, CM EPS was rated in the bottom 5 CMs with just 41% rating. He continues to trail MK Stalin on Google Trends.

Tamil Nadu Politics continues to go away from CM EPS

On CrowdWisdom360’s Assembly election political fantasy game, Stalin is rated twice of EPS.

The CM can still recover the Corona situation (Just like MP or Bengal) but deaths like these leave a long lasting bad memory amongst voters.
