West Bengal Coronavirus Update : Which District is most Affected?

Kolkata remains to be a hotspot, with over 6635 active cases and 999 deaths. However, the district also has a very high recovery rate. As many as 22170 people have recovered of the virus in Kolkata.

Second to Kolkata is North 24 Parganas. The district has 5540 active cases, and 512 deaths. The number of people who have recovered in the state stands at 16227. Jhargram is the only district in the state which has fewer than a hundred cases. Other districts which have reported lesser than 300 cases are Kalimpong, Uttar Dinajpur, and Purulia. The positivity rate of the state is 8.7%.

The virus is spreading exponentially in the state. The state might reach its peak soon. However, the unpredictability of the behavior of the virus cannot let us evaluate the future of the state.

The state has not conducted many tests as of now. Although they are increasing the testing capacity of the state. Many cases are going unreported due to the previously slow testing rate. States such as Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh have conducted far many tests than West Bengal.

If cases continue to go unreported, it will only lead to further spread of the virus and the state might get overwhelmed with the increased caseload. The state has increased its testing to 27,000 per day, but it is still not enough in comparison with other states,

It is pertinent to follow the government issued guidelines to prevent the virus from spreading further. The unpredictable behavior of the virus is a matter of concern, and proper precautions need to be taken to reduce the impact of the virus in the state.
