What will PM Modi talk about in Today’s Address to Nation?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today at 8pm. This will mark the fourth special address to the country by our honorable Prime Minister. The Chief Ministers of all states held a meeting with the Prime minister yesterday, on 11 May, to discuss their respective state’s lockdown exit strategy. There are speculations regarding the extension of the lockdown. Considering the staggering increase in the number of coronavirus cases in India, Lockdown 4.0 is probable. There are considerations being made regarding a possible ease in the lockdown rules in some areas of the country.

In yesterday’s meeting, the Prime Minister had requested the Chief Ministers to strategize a functional plan to take care of the coronavirus situation in their respective states.

“I am of the firm view that the measures needed in the first phase of lockdown were not needed during the 2nd phase and similarly the measures needed in the 3rd Phase are not needed in the fourth,” he said.

It is of utmost importance to control the surge in coronavirus cases, as the medical and health system needs to be well prepared for proper treatment of non-coronavirus cases. It is highly important to ensure proper safety and treatment being given to the patients. Hence, it is essential to flatten the curve and not overwhelm our medical and health system, which could turn out to be potentially catastrophic.

The nation-wide address by the Prime Minister could be an initiation of a new phase in the fight against Covid-19. New rules and possible relaxation in some parts of the nation could be laid out. The government will set out a plan, with the aim of controlling the surge in coronavirus cases, while refueling the economy which is severely impacted by the lockdown.

At present there are 70,756 coronavirus cases in India, where 22,454 have recovered, and 2,293 have succumbed to the disease.
