Canada vs Costa Rica Prediction and Odds: Preview

The ageing Costa Ricans had to face a defeat to a youthful Canada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal and will be determined to avenge their defeat.

Canada are currently third in the group and need to win their next to matches to have any chance of qualifying. Removing Mexico from the top of the table would be difficult so Canada need to concentrate on cementing their place in the third position as the top three countries will automatically qualify for the World Cup.

This home stretch will be very important for them as they are scheduled to visit Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama. So they need to be dominant at home and grab maximum points to keep themselves up in the hunt.

Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osario feels these home games are the opportunities to display their strength at maximum.

The focus will be on Alphonso Davies who has earned plaudits for his fearless display with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. He shot to fame in the German top tier and has been a household name since then.

Canada has been a robust attacking unit and Davies has the permission to launch marauding runs through the flanks. With 45000 people cheering for them they are expected to unleash their attacking best against Costa Rica.

If USA drop points against Mexico and if Canada manage to beat the Costa Ricans they will be taking second place which would boost their qualification chances.

Coach John Herdman has a real selection headache it seems. Milan Borjan had a difficult time with Covid-19 but now is likely to be in the Canada goal. On the other hand, Maxime Crepeau has been very good for his club Vancouver Whitecaps and had a very good outing against Mexico back in October.

Cyle Larin and Atiba Hutchinson are also returning from injuries and it remains to be seen whether they would be able to enter the starting lineup or not.

Costa Rica are currently in fifth place and need to at least occupy the fourth spot if they want to go through the playoffs way. They have only won one out of their last eight matches in all competitions and their inconsistency could be a matter of concern against an in-form team like Canada.Costa Rica have only beaten Canada once in the last seven matches and need to be at their best to have any chances in the match.
