After winning by less than a point in 2018 against Andrew Gillum, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to win re-election, as he leads most polls. His Democratic opponent will be chosen in a primary on August 23, 2022.

Florida Governor Primary election has very less importance when it comes to the GOP field as the current Governor Ron DeSantis is very much popular among the Republicans and he is expected to have no challenge in the Primary. The Democratic field, though less crowded is expected to be a close one. The latest poll numbers show Charlie Crist is way ahead of his rival Democratic Party’s candidate, Nikki Fried. Why we are calling the election to be close? Recently a picture of Charlie Crist and Volodymyr Shcherban surfaced dating back to 2006. Volodymyr Shcherban is a pro-Russian politician who has been in news recently. Added to it Charlie Crist was a close ally of Trump back in 2005-06 when Crist himself was a Republican. Now the reason we call the election to be a close one is not just based on this one fact but on our observation of certain parameters that have played an important role in determining the result of the election. Nikki Fried has been behind Charlie Crist in the majority of polls. But our data based on Google search and net sentiment shows that Fried is more popular than Charlie Crist. However, it would be too early to predict the outcome of the election based on our observations. We would wait for a few more days before giving a firm outlook of the Democratic Party’s Primary election. |

Most of Florida’s Hispanics are Cubans. In fact, Florida as a state due to its close proximity to Cuba has the highest proportion of Cuban Americans in the country. Most of the community is well known for its antipathy to Communism or Socialism due to most of the community being forced to migrate due to the actions of the Communist government of Cuba.
There’s a large chunk of Puerto Ricans in Florida, especially in the Orlando Metro area. They moved to Florida due to its cultural similarities, the poor economic conditions in Puerto Rico, and after Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2018. The remaining Latino population is very diverse, hailing from various countries in South America including Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela etc.
Florida has been crowned as one of the best places to retire due to its weather and beaches. Thus the state also has a large retiree population. 20% of the population is over 65 years of age.
Florida Governor Election 2022 Polls: Party Registration
Florida has been a reliable swing state since 1992 fiercely contested between the 2 major parties.
In the last 20 years, the Republican party has grown more powerful in Florida and has been able to win over most state-level elected offices. Currently, except for the Agriculture Commissioner, it holds nearly each and every single office in the state including the 2 Senate seats and 16/27 US House Representative Seats.
As per the latest figures released by the Florida Secretary of State:-
Registered Republicans are 35.77% of total voters
Registered Democrats are 35.93% of total voters
Registered Independents are 26.54% of total voters
